How to Read Hair Transplant Photographs

Consider lighting, camera angles, hair length and time intervals when looking at before-and-after photographs.

Hair transplant photographs can support a consultation, but they cannot predict your individual result on their own. It is difficult to interpret an image without knowing when it was taken, the conditions and the starting situation.

Look for comparable conditions

Angles, lighting, hair length and styling influence appearance. Check whether the before and after photographs use comparable conditions. Selected close-ups may not show the complete area.

Ask about the time interval

An immediate post-procedure photograph and an image taken months later describe different stages. Ask which stage is shown and whether the photograph is current. One set of images does not represent everyone’s experience.

Include the donor area and context

Ask to see the donor area as well as the recipient area. Learn about the initial pattern, the available resource and the intended plan. The stock photographs on this website are not patient-result examples. Our editorial policy explains their role.
